Supported Asset Classes

  • Stocks

Short Selling

TradersPost supports buying, selling, and short selling stocks with Robinhood. You can open short positions with a sell signal and cover them with a buy signal, the same way shorting works with other stock brokers on TradersPost.

Short order type limits

Robinhood only allows Market and Limit order types for short sales. Stop, stop-limit, and trailing stop orders are not available when opening a short position.

  • Short entries (Sell Short) — Market or Limit only
  • Long entries and exits, and buy-to-cover exits — Market, Limit, Stop, Stop Limit, and Trailing Stop

If a webhook or signal override requests an unsupported short order type, the trade fails with an unsupported entry or exit order type message instead of sending an invalid order to Robinhood.

Short time in force

Short sales on Robinhood use Day time in force. GTC is not supported for sell-short orders.

Trailing Stops

Robinhood supports trailing stop orders for long entries, long exits, and buy-to-cover exits. You can configure a trailing stop as a percentage or a fixed dollar amount in your strategy subscription settings, or send it in a webhook signal.

Trailing stops are not supported when opening a short position. Use Market or Limit for short entries, then manage the cover separately (including with a trailing stop on the buy-to-cover if needed).

Robinhood Retirement (IRA) Support

As of August 12, 2024, TradersPost now fully supports the Traditional and Roth IRA accounts provided by Robinhood. When connecting your Robinhood account, you will now see your IRA accounts available as a selection.

Crypto & Options Support

While Robinhood does support crypto and options, TradersPost has not integrated it with our platform yet but we plan to in the future.

Limitations

  • Robinhood does not support bracket, OTO, or OCO order classes. Take profit and stop loss exits are submitted as separate simple orders, not attached as a bracket to the entry. See Order Classes.
  • Robinhood does not support paper trading through TradersPost.
  • Short sales are limited to Market and Limit order types, and use Day time in force (not GTC).
  • Market orders cannot use GTC time in force.
  • Fractional share orders cannot be short. See Fractional Shares.
